Speech Sound Disorders
If you are struggling with understanding the clarity of your child's speech, you may notice some of the following issues...

Does this sound like you?
-
You feel awful about always asking your child to repeat themselves or show you what they mean
-
You say you speak "[child's name] speech" or you are their interpreter when you're out with family and friends
-
You worry about other people not being able to understand them when they go to school or a friend's house

Your child may speak like this:
-
Sound omissions ("do" for "dog")
-
Substitutions ("wabbit" for rabbit")
-
Additions ("buhlack" for "black")
-
Distortions (a "slushy" or funny sounding "s")
-
Syllable-level errors are all symptoms of speech sound errors ("vegtable" for "vegetable")

Next Steps: Speech Sound Evaluation & Therapy
A comprehensive evaluation is required to begin therapy. An evaluation typically takes 1 - 1.5 hours to assess speech sounds and oral motor skills. Following the assessment, we will discuss the detailed written report with the findings, recommendations, and treatment plan--if treatment is recommended.

These sounds may occur for individual sounds or a group/pattern of sounds.

Age Candidacy for Speech Therapy
Speech therapy can begin as young as 3-years-old,
through adolescence and adulthood

Speech Sound Development Chart
